Historic Regent Street Property Passes to New Ownership After More Than 80 Years of Family Stewardship.
One of Cambridge's longest-held family-owned commercial properties has entered a new chapter following its sale after more than 80 years in the ownership of the Beazor family.
Robinson Layer acted on behalf of the Beazor family in the sale of 78–80 Regent Street, a prominent four-storey property comprising retail accommodation fronting Regent Street with ancillary accommodation above.
The family's association with the property began in 1941, when Martin Beazor's grandfather first acquired the premises. For around 50 years, Martin Beazor operated John Beazor Antiques from the Regent Street shop, building a business that became well known to generations of Cambridge residents, collectors and visitors. The sale marks the end of an era for one of the city's longest-standing family-owned commercial properties.
Steve Harvey of Robinson Layer said:
"It has been a privilege to advise our client on the sale of such an important property. Buildings like 78–80 Regent Street are part of Cambridge's commercial and architectural heritage, and it is rare to see assets with such a long history of family ownership come to the market.
The property attracted strong interest from owner-occupiers, investors and developers alike, all of whom recognised both the quality of the asset and its prominent position on one of Cambridge's principal thoroughfares. We are delighted to have secured a successful outcome for our client and wish Martin Beazor, his family and the purchaser every success for the future."
The sale highlights the continued demand for well-located freehold opportunities within central Cambridge, where buildings of this nature rarely become available.
While the Regent Street premises have now been sold, John Beazor Antiques will continue to trade online under Martin’s guidance, ensuring customers old and new can continue to enjoy the business's carefully curated collection and expertise built up over generations.
