COMPLEXITY DEFINES ROBINSON LAYER’S YEAR
If one word defines Robinson Layer’s last 12 months is must be ‘Complexity’.
The latest deal has been the refurbishing and near finalisation of letting the 18,000 sq ft former HQ of Cambridge News at Milton which has been complex in several aspects, not least handling the handover as the newspaper moved out and then specifying the modernisation programme. Just 1,500 sq ft remains to be let.
Close on the tail has been the massive relocation by Royston Labels. Having advised the firm on the acquisition of its Orchard Road estate, which totals over 60,000 sq ft on a two acre site, Mark Robinson then proceeded to market a range of property previously occupied by the company, including four freeholds and a two long leaseholds totalling more than 15,000 sq ft, raising more than £1.25 million.
Added to this tally was a complex series of leasing deals at Cambourne Business Park to fire up the expansion of major global chip maker MediaTek, leading them to trade up from 16,000 sq ft to over 30,000 sq ft in phases over three years, involving exercising a break clause and an assignment plus a sublease.
Another large letting, handled by fellow partner Jonathan Lager, was at Dales Manor Business Park, Sawston, where London City Bond Ltd (LCB), the UK’s leading Drinks Logistics and Tax Warehousing company, took a lease on the near 50,000 sq ft former Libra building on Sawston’s Dales Manor Business Park - one of the largest distribution centres in the area.
Mark Robinson said: ”A feature of our year has been the availability of freeholds to sell.”
