NO LAZY SUMMER DAYS AT ROBINSON LAYER
The brisk pace of lettings and sales achieved by Robinson Layer over the summer months has included a number of properties vacant for as much as ten years.
“Such is the demand in and around Cambridge,” said Agency Partner Mark Robinson, “some old diehards have at last been snapped up.”
On Newmarket Road, the old Town Crier offices at the Cambridge Technopark have been let after a decade being empty. A shop in Chesterton Road has been let after a couple of years being held vacant by the owner. Further afield in Caldecote, a modern office building at Burr Elm Court which had been vacant some three years has been taken by Headland Amenity, a leading innovator in the field of speciality fertilisers and associated turf management products. Mark Robinson said: “Rurally-based properties have not been in such great demand in the past couple of years, but the shortage of space in and around Cambridge often means there are no alternatives for expanding companies, so as Cambridge fills up the benefits are rippling out.”
In Ely there is a similar tale to tell. At Prospect House on the Cambridgeshire Business Park, the building had been vacant for some time following a receivership, but has now been bought by new owners who have fitted it out to a high standard and half of it is now let to PneumaCare respiratory imaging systems. In the same scheme, a further letting and a sale have recently been achieved by Robinson Layer.
Mark Robinson added: “This has been a very busy summer, without the usual dip in activity. It clearly reflects the upbeat business scene, but it doesn’t bode well because of the acute shortage of space in most categories. It offers landlords with off-centre properties an opportunity to upgrade vacant buildings to modern standards while the current famine lasts.”
